Beacon Community Choir was founded in September 2007 to enable the wider community to share a love of music and singing. We have never asked members to audition - and there is no requirement to read music, or to have any previous choral experience. The music is taught in rehearsals, there is always someone on hand to help navigate the score and we often use teach tracks to help the learning process.
Over the years we have sung a wide range of music from pop songs musical theatre and an Old Time Music Hall to Faure's Requiem, Stainer's Crucifixion and Karl Jenkins's Songs of Sanctuary. We have also commissioned works from our President, John Cameron, to celebrate our 5th and 10th anniversaries.
We regularly perform a Christmas Concert, sing carols at Halton House for charity, host and perform at the annual "Music on the Lawn" music festival, and occasionally join with the choir of St Mary's to sing for weddings. In 2018 we were privileged to be asked to sing choral evensong at Gloucester Cathedral.
Rehearsals take place on Thursdays at 8.00 at St Mary the Virgin, Ivinghoe.
